Yet again, i'm playing games in class. "Networking" Bingo. Pretty interesting really.
It had some phrases, and you were to go around the room to find somebody who fit that phrase. Phrases like 'born in the month of October" or "hiked Blue Mountains". Each name could only be written once on your paper. Like any game of bingo, the aim of the game was to finish one row first and then try to get a full house before anyone else.
Something stuck out at me though.
In the race to finish first to shout out "bingo", is that how we operate in our professional lives, simply aiming "to beat" or be ahead of the other person?
Are people just using each other to achieve their goal?
Or do you remember the person that you met? (not just their faces if you remember that much) But do you also remember their names?
Therefore, when you meet a new person as a seasoned or budding professional, are you networking or being an opportunist?
What are your thoughts?
